Father Frank visits

Father Frank accepted our invitation to visit our classroom to help us answer some questions we had about Saint John Mary Vianney. In our Religion lessons we have been learning about our Parish and the saint that gives us our school name. Father Frank was an expert about Saint John Vianney and we learnt some wonderful new facts about this very special and kind man.

The Rainbow Fish

As part of  the Friends program we have listened to the story of the Rainbow Fish. The Rainbow Fish was the most beautiful fish in the ocean with gorgeous shiny scales but he had no friends. He discovers that by giving away his precious scales to other fish he begins to feel wonderful. After listening to the story we painted our very own Rainbow Fish and gave away scales to friends in our class.

Push and Pull Forces

We are still learning about Push and Pull forces in Science and this week we explored toys from around the world. Toys like hoops, Russian dolls, boomerangs, lego bricks and teddy bears all use push and pull forces to make them move. We even discovered a helicopter toy that has been around since the 1500's and used both forces to make it move.

Spinning toys

Today in Science we made a simple spinning toy out of cardboard and a pencil to investigate push and pull forces. Our toy looked like a Mammandur which is a spinning top made by the Guugu Yimmidhirr people of Cape Bedford in Queensland. Their spinning toy was made of beeswax and wood and they would have competitions to see how long their tops could spin.
