Turkey

This week in Geography we have been learning about Turkey. Turkey is a large, mountainous and beautiful country found between Europe and Asia. To the north is the Black Sea and to the south is the Mediterranean Sea. Did you know that the country's official language is Turkish and that the capital is a city called Ankara?

Mavis the Amazing Tugboat

Author Dianne Lonergan visited SJV and spoke to students and teachers about a children's book that she has written. Mavis the Amazing Tugboat is about a brave tug boat captain battling the Brisbane River during the 2011 flood. Captain Doug Hislop and his tugboat Mavis saved Brisbane's Gateway Bridge from destruction when they moved a fast-moving piece of concrete away from its pylons. Wow!

Cross Country

On Tuesday SJV participated in our school cross country carnival. We travelled by bus to Memorial Park where were ran 500 metres around the park. At the end of the carnival Mrs Lyons told us that Gold house had won the most points for the carnival. Great running everyone!

ANZAC Day

On Friday April 25 students from SJV marched with other people from the community as part of the ANZAC Day march. We finished our march at Richard Russell Park where the Manly War Memorial stands. We listened to prayers, songs and the names of people who have served our country in times of war. Lest We Forget.
