Mavis the Amazing Tugboat

Author Dianne Lonergan visited SJV and spoke to students and teachers about a children's book that she has written. Mavis the Amazing Tugboat is about a brave tug boat captain battling the Brisbane River during the 2011 flood. Captain Doug Hislop and his tugboat Mavis saved Brisbane's Gateway Bridge from destruction when they moved a fast-moving piece of concrete away from its pylons. Wow!

Hi 2s,
Mavis is a great tugboat? Isn't she. The 2011 floods were very hard for many people especially the people living close to river. It's amazing that such a small tugboat could save the giant gateway bridge. Such a small tug compared to the long piece of walking track. It's such a privilege that we could meet the authors and that they could come to our school. Did you see Mavis the tug on TV in 2011?
